Christmas Season is Over (for now)
Christmas season and Whamageddon are over. It's the perfect time to listen to Last Christmas.
Now that the Christmas season is over, it's okay to play it.
You may or not be aware of Whamageddon, a silly game that's been catching up online lately. The detailed rules are in the link, but in short, you need to "survive" from December 1st to December 24th without hearing Wham's Last Christmas. If you hear it, you're out.
This year, I survived until December 23rd, which is my personal record, but some last minute shopping did me in.
Now, the truth is that I actually like the song. It's one of the few Christmas songs I actually like (with John Lennon's and Run DMC's).
It may come as a surprise to some of you, since I'm usually known for my more "indie" musical tastes, but I genuinely like Wham! and George Michael. There aren't many pop singers that I find talented, but George Michael was one of the few exceptions.
Wham!'s music was also one of my first forays into grown-up music. That may be one reason they still have a place in my heart today.
I should also mention Careless Whispers, which was number one just when I had my first crush. But that's another story for another day (or not). Fun fact: we never dated, but we're still vaguely in touch 41 years later.
I can't resist sharing the song with you right now:
Now, onto New Year's celebrations!
