Blank Page Anxiety

Blank Page Anxiety
Excuse me, but why is there a blue island in the living room?

I don't usually have blank page anxiety. There is one exception: when I start a blog. I want the first post to be memorable or something, and well... here comes blank page anxiety.

So that first post will be a patchwork of whatever comes to mind and fits here for a few days and until I feel like hitting the publish button.

At today's meeting:

Me: "There's a need to restructure the writing class because students are using AI more and more, so the current format doesn't work anymore."

Colleague: "Yes, you're right. So my idea would be to incorporate AI into the class and teach them how to use it for the purpose of writing English."

Unfortunately, it's illegal in Japan to throw your colleague out of a 4th floor window (plus he's bigger than me).

Push It by Garbage. I love this song, and the video clip fits the theme of this blog.

Yes, I'm totally using this post to try out some of Ghost's features; for example, YouTube embedding.

One last thing.

I'm kind of tempted to talk about work here sometimes, but it's a little dangerous.

On the one hand, I'd like to use this newsletter/blog for a bit of journaling, both to try to make sense of the world and to share interesting anecdotes from everyday life. On the other hand, there is the issue of privacy. The chances of one of my students ever stumbling across this site are very slim, but the chances of one of my colleagues doing so are not so slim. Of course, I have no intention of ever naming anyone, but some people might recognize themselves, or worse, think I'm talking about them when I'm not.

Hmmm....

We'll see...

But if you're wondering why I never use my full name on social media, even though I don't really hide my identity, this is why. The less "googleable" I am, the better. It's weird being a teacher sometimes. You're not a public figure, but... you're a very local one. You have the right to free speech, but... not completely.

Oh well, I've been on this path for a couple of decades now, so it'll probably be more of the same.

In the meantime, why don't you sign up? It's free (but if you're rich enough to think my writing is worth something, there is a paid option, don't hesitate).

Well, I beat the blank page. I guess the next post will actually have a topic. Or not.

Talk soon.
