Barricades?
No, the students at my university haven't started building barricades in the corridors. So it's not in support of the French students? Sadly, I'm pretty sure most of them have no idea what's happening over there. The few who have heard anything probably only know about the "riots", not the actual situation.
As a reminder:
- French high school students are demanding an improvement in their study conditions, which have deteriorated considerably in recent years due to repeated government mismanagement.
- In response, the government sent in riot police, who exacted the worst possible violence, mutilating some of them. This is unacceptable in a country that calls itself a democracy.
- This could be seen as an isolated incident, or as a case of 'oh, the French and their riots', but when a country spends years, if not decades, destroying its education system and uses violence against its own youth as the only answer, the future is extremely worrying.
In other news, I recently came across this quote, which I like very much (I'm not sure who the author is).
"It's easier to see an angry man than the truth."
As always, if you enjoyed this post, please share it with your friends and contacts on your preferred platforms. It would mean the world to me, as would your subscription to the newsletter (it's free, although you can also help me pay the bills if you can afford it).
In this day and age, when you can no longer rely on search engines to be discovered, and when the web is becoming increasingly full of AI slop, it's more important than ever to know that you are read and followed by real humans. This is what still motivates me to write online.
That's all for today.
Thanks for reading.
Until next time.
