Circular Inspiration or Coincidence?
A bit more than a year ago, I stumbled upon a gacha series with a design I adored so much that I had to buy all the items. (note: If you want to buy an entire gacha series without spending a fortune, use Mercari, which is more or less the Japanese eBay.)
They're not necessarily the most original, but those little "Build Wizards," as they're called in Japanglish, really had something to them.
Here are two of them to give you an idea:

So, for last year's Inktober, I decided to draw little characters inspired by them.
If you want to know more, here is the detail of the story:

I didn't draw much for Inktober last year (and I didn't draw at all this year. I need to change that.)
Here are a few drawings I made with them:

Still, I had an interesting idea with these characters, and I should try to explore them further.
And finally, my favorite was this one:

You can also see the black-and-white version there.

That was a year ago, and I haven't drawn any of these little hooded characters since. I've always thought that I should resume, but I've never actually done it. Yet?
Then, a few days ago, I saw that a new series of "Build Wizards" was being released, including this one.

I'm more than intrigued. Did the designer stumble upon my blog somehow? Maybe I posted on Instagram and he saw it? Or linked to his own site and he got a ping back? I don't think I did then - but I did now.
Or maybe that's just a coincidence...
We'll probably never know.
Oh well...
As always, if you enjoyed this post, please share it with your friends and contacts on your preferred platforms. It would mean the world to me, as would your subscription to the newsletter (it's free, although you can also help me pay the bills if you can afford it).
In this day and age, when you can no longer rely on search engines to be discovered, and when the web is becoming increasingly full of AI slop, it's more important than ever to know that you are read and followed by real humans. This is what still motivates me to write online.
That's all for today.
Until next time.
Best,
DavidB
